The Giver Summary
This story is set in an ideal society of the future where everything is evenly distributed and everyone lives fairly. In this society, everyone wears the same clothes, eats the same food, and lives in identical houses. Additionally, elements such as emotions and colors have been eliminated. The protagonist, Jonas, was selected to perform a new job in this ideal society at the age of twelve. He becomes a "Receiver of Memory," receiving memories from previous generations. As a Receiver, Jonas receives memories from the past and discovers what has been removed from the ideal society. He comes to realize the importance of emotions, colors, music, freedom, and love, and this awareness shakes his world. Using the memories he receives, Jonas begins to find new ways to improve society's flaws. However, as he pursues this, conflicts arise between his thoughts and the traditions of the ideal society.
