Frugality Challenge Room among young Korean trend.

'Frugality Challenge' is trending among the Korean younger generation in online spaces.

It is a playful culture where individuals share their expenditure details and receive feedback in anonymous KakaoTalk open chat rooms.

As of today, there are over 100 KakaoTalk open chat rooms searchable under the name 'Geojibang(Frugality room). In most chat rooms, participants are required to share their anonymous IDs and their target expenditure goals.

When expenditures occur, the amount is deducted from the target expenditure. As other participants provide evaluations of the expenditures, it leads to the generation of humorous codes and gains popularity when shared through social media.

For instance, some of the messages are as follows:

If someone asks, "Should I buy ice cream?" feedback like "Go ahead and have some ice !" is received.

When a message says, "I bought cigarettes and green tea," feedback such as "Try growing your own green tea" or "Roll the tea leaves you grew and light them up" is given.

When someone asks, "Can I buy a new lipstick?" amusing feedback like "Bite your lips hard to make them blush" is provided.

It is impressive to see how the younger generation is trying to save money in the face of rising prices, and these entertaining feedback messages add to the charm.
